Kander Books · Coming soon

Know what's actually yours.

Bookkeeping built for Canadian trades. Log money in and receipts as you go. Kander Books splits out the tax, sets aside what you'll owe, and hands your accountant the year. Your books stay on your phone.

Coming soon to Kander

A real result from Kander Books: a quiet first year, one $10,500 Manitoba job with GST in it, and a $56 tool.

The question it answers

Of the money in your account, how much is yours?

The bank balance lies. Part of every payment is the CRA's GST, part is income tax and CPP you'll owe in spring, and part already went on materials. Kander Books splits every dollar the moment you log it, so the number you see is the number you can actually spend.

How it works

Three habits. That's the whole job.

01

Money in

A customer pays you. Tap Money in, put in the amount, and say whether the tax was in it or on top. Kander Books pulls the tax apart for you.

02

Receipt

You buy something for work. Tap Receipt, put in the amount, pick what it was for. The tax you can claim back is claimed. The tax you can't stays in the cost, where it belongs.

03

The year hands itself over

At year end, one package for your accountant: the figures for your business return and your GST return, every entry behind them, and the questions only you can answer.

What's inside

Built for the way trades actually get paid.

Every province and territory

GST, HST, PST, QST and Manitoba's RST, each handled the way that province handles it. The provincial tax that can't be claimed back on materials stays in the job cost instead of quietly underpricing your work.

Tax set aside, by bracket

Income tax and CPP are worked out on your whole year, not one payment at a time, and the amount set aside steps up as you move up a bracket.

Invoices from work orders

Turn work orders into invoices, track holdback, and see who still owes you. Money billed in December counts in December, even if it's paid in January.

Payroll, the CRA's way

Pay a helper and the deductions follow the CRA's own method for every province, checked against the CRA's published tables. You get the pay stub and the amount to send in.

Truck, home and meals

Your work share of the truck and the house, meals at the 50 percent the CRA allows, and tools over $500 written off over the years the way the CRA requires.

A personal budget, kept apart

Your own money, month by month, with receipts against a plan you set once. It tells you when you're over. None of it ever reaches your accountant's package.

Private by design

Your books never leave your phone.

No server holds them. Kander doesn't hold them. Nobody reads them unless you send them. Back them up to your own file whenever you like, and share the year with your accountant when you're ready.

Where it actually is

Kander Books is coming, and it isn't something we're dreaming up. It's built and being used right now by the Winnipeg contractor building Kander, twenty-five years on the tools, on his own books.

Before anyone else touches it, every figure gets checked. A full year of test books matches an independent calculation to the cent, and payroll matches the CRA's own tables. It gives you and your accountant clear estimates. It never files anything for you, and your accountant always has the final say.

One account will open both Kander and Kander Books. Founding contractors on Kander get their first year of Kander Books free.
